Crescent is proud to be the exclusive global partner of Royal Moorman luxury fabric matboards. With headquarters in the Netherlands, Royal Moorman Karton was established in 1912 and given the “Royal” designation in 2012 by Netherland’s Queen Beatrix.
To be awarded this distinctive designation, a company must have been in existence for at least 100 years with a history of exemplary conduct and a prestigious reputation. Once given this designation, a company can add the word “Royal” to its name and the royal crown to its logo, as shown here.

What Makes Moorman Matboard Different
Moorman matboards are available in six distinctive and stylish fabrics. Starting with luxurious suedes, you’ll find a depth of nuanced colors that is unmatched in the industry (53 to be exact!). Most white core suedes are available in both standard 32” x 40” size and 40” x 60” oversize. There are even eight black core options!
In addition to suede surfaces, the Moorman collection also features an extensive (33 colors) linen collection. From subtle neutrals to rich, saturated jewel tones, you’re sure to find the perfect color for your framing design.

Sometimes a framing design begs for a subtle variety of texture, within a single color. Whether you are designing shadow boxes or other projects with multiple mats, Moorman offers 14 “Perfect Pairings” of suede and linen mats that can be used together in perfect color harmony.
You can also find natural and rustic linens, beautiful slubbed silks, and the newest additions to the Moorman matboard family, Shimmer Wovens to complete the Moorman Fabric Matboard family. Featuring a touch of sophisticated sparkle, Shimmer Wovens add a modern splash to Moorman’s classic line.

All Moorman matboards are acid-free and lignin-free.* So you can design with confidence that your customers’ artwork is protected today and for many years to come.
Another distinctive feature you’ll notice is the overall thickness. Moorman matboards are a little bit thicker than other standard 4 ply boards. As an example, Moorman Suede matboards measure 0.070” thick. This compares to Crescent Select Suede matboards which measure 0.058” thick. Framers tell us they love that little bit of extra rigidity when building shadow boxes. We’ve also heard that many framerslike the design element of a more prominent bevel cut attained by the Moorman matboard enhanced height. *Note that while all Royal Moorman matboards are acid-free and lignin-free, the Moorman black core offerings do not fully meet all conservation requirements as defined by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Therefore, the Moorman black cores are considered decorative matboard, and should not be used next to original artwork. All Moorman boards with white core are fully conservation quality.
