A considered choice
Know your matboard.
Where does Berkeley belong?
Berkeley is non-conservation matboard, recommended for decorative artwork, posters, open-edition prints, and production or contract framing where conservation is not required. For artwork that requires preservation, choose a suitable conservation-grade matboard.
What is the board made to do?
The surface, core, and backing are buffered with calcium carbonate. A 3–5% alkaline reserve helps slow future acid formation. This acid-neutralized construction does not make Berkeley conservation-grade.
How do I choose the right size and core?
Use the digital specifier to check each color's item numbers, core choices, thickness, and sheet formats. White, cream, and selected black-core options appear in the collection; availability varies by item.
